Beech Hill Primary School

Ensuring all children feel happy, safe and loved

Throckley Primary

Throckley is a medium sized primary school with 246 pupils from Nursery to Year 6. We are located on the western edge of the city of Newcastle serving a mixed catchment area.  In November 2013 Throckley Primary was graded Outstanding in all areas (Leadership and Management, Learning and Progress, Behaviour and Safety and Attainment) by OFSTED.

We are privileged to have a fantastic PFI school building built in 2003. The school has two yards, a MUGA court and a large playing field. The school has ample teaching areas as well as a dining hall, sports hall, ICT suite, library and specialist music room.

Throckley Primary is a fun and vibrant school where pupils, staff, governors, parents and the school community work extremely hard and have high expectations of one another.  We are committed to the highest standards of teaching and learning – achieved through a combination of challenge, support, encouragement and praise – to ensure that all students fulfil their potential.

The school uses a cross-curricular approach to teaching and learning.  This means that skills, knowledge and understanding across a range of subjects are brought together and form a topic.  Within the topic, children are able to practise and apply their reading, maths and English skills in other subject areas.

At Throckley Primary you will find a welcoming and purposeful environment, with relationships built on mutual respect. Our supportive pastoral systems help pupils to achieve beyond their expectations and develop a strong sense of responsibility for themselves, their peers and the wider world.  Throckley Primary pupils develop skills for lifelong learning.  Achievement and a can do attitude are at the heart of our philosophy; we support this through nurturing pupils’ creativity, encouraging independent thinking and learning and showing that failure can be a learning opportunity.
