Grasshoppers and Bumblebees
Learning about nature
We had a great time at the wonderful Washington Wetland Centre. The sun shone and we all learnt so much about wildlife. We have been given a challenge to find out even more.
Creating colour wheels
We have been exploring primary and secondary colours. We made colour wheels showing which colours we made. We have some budding artists in Year 2!
Exploring Rousseau
In art we have explored Henri’ Rousseau's most famous painting – Tiger in a tropical storm. We have used lots of skills to produce our final pieces. This week we used water colours to make the background of our paintings.
Taking music outside
We took music outside this week. We played music games in the sunshine and had lots of fun.
Keeping Fit
Year 2 enjoyed their fitness session with our visiting coach. We learnt about keeping fit and healthy and learnt some fun games too.
Marvellous measuring
This week we have been learning about centimetres and metres. We searched the school for things that are longer and shorter than a metre. Some children in Year 2 are over a metre and some are not!!
Investigating Towers
In DT we have been looking at different towers – the Eiffel Tower, the Burj Kalifa, the Blackpool Tower and The Shard. We know what these towers have in common. This week we have been investigating how to make a strong base for a tower – the results were interesting!
Jingling all the way
Year 2 had an amazing afternoon at our Christmas party – we danced, played games and ate lots of yummy party food.
Hitting the beat
Over the last 5 weeks we have been working with Jane in our music lessons. We have been learning about beat and rhythm and have learnt lots of new songs.
Relaxing time
In PSHE we have been talking about our mental health and wellbeing. We have learnt some relaxation techniques. We chose our favourite one and try to use them during our time in school.
Designing Play Mats
In DT year 2 have been looking at different play mats for babies and toddlers. We have thought about how they are designed and which ones are the most popular. This week we have started our designs ready to make a prototype of our play mats.
Learning Place Value
In Maths, we have been learning about place value. We have separated 2 digit numbers into tens and ones. The children have an excellent understanding about the value of each digit.
Living it up!
So far in science we have been looking at living things and their habitats. We have carried out a bird watch, made bird feeders, examined and labelled fish. Our latest lesson we create a habitat suitable for amphibians!
