Beech Hill Primary School

Ensuring all children feel happy, safe and loved

Letter to parents and carers

Dear families,

As I mentioned last week the NEU teaching union have balloted their members to strike for the first time in 15 years. We have teachers throughout school who are members of the NEU who are in dispute with the government over both pay and school funding. Within Valour schools, we respect colleague’s democratic right to strike, or not strike, whilst trying to keep disruption for our pupils and families to a minimum.

Following a risk assessment and safety review we are able to keep the following classes open on Wednesday 1st February and children in the classes listed below should attend school as normal;

Nursery is open,

Both Reception classes are open,

Year 1KJ is open,

2MR is open,

4HR is open,

Both Year 5 classes are open,

Class 6TL can safely open in the morning but children will need to be collected/ walk home after lunch at 13.10.

All other children will need to remain home on 1st February due to industrial action.

We will be sourcing vouchers for the children who are not at school but are entitled to a free school meal; more information on this will follow.

We feel the strikes are not likely to be called off but if they are, we will let parents know immediately. If you have any questions, please contact the school office who can clarify information.

With kindest regards,

Dame Nicola Stephenson DBE
