Online advice from Northumbria Police

1st April 2020
Northumbria Police have asked us to share the following advice about online safety for children.

As you may be aware, children and young people are sadly vulnerable to being drawn into concerning activity of various descriptions through their online activity. The forced hiatus bringing the premature closure of schools due to Covid-19 will create opportunities for those people around the world who would seek to prey upon the vulnerable. We can expect the use of the internet by children to vastly increase and remain at that level for an extended period.

In an effort to highlight this risk, the police have asked us to share the above picture. The police have said that this message is a reminder for parents and carers to carefully monitor your child’s online activity to protect as many of our young people as possible from the threat of terrorism, radicalisation and other forms of grooming.

Thank you.
