Parliament Visit

Gillian Bell, Senior Education & Engagement Officer (North East of England), visited the school on Wednesday to talk to KS2 children about Parliament. Her assembly gave children a general overview of how Parliament is made up, the people who are involved and where the Houses of Parliament are located. After the assembly some children from Years 4, 5 and 6 took part in a debate over current issues such as sugar tax and the banning of fireworks from shops to the public. The hall was set up to look like the House of Commons and the children were split into the Government and the opposition with a speaker appointed. The children thoroughly enjoyed the debating side and were excellent at arguing points against each other. They followed all the rules that Parliament use to give them an insight into what is involved.
